McQuade's Pharmacy Sponsors a Personal Care Drive
McQuade's is sponsoring a personal care drive to benefit the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center (PNC). Many people in our community lack access to basic items like shampoo, soap, toilet paper, baby wipes, toothpaste and much more. Please consider making a donation to this important cause. Collection bins are available at both the Mystic and Westerly stores. Thank you for helping your neighbor!

Mandatory Mail-Order Jeopardizes Pharmacy Patients
Recently many patients have been forced to fill their maintenance medications through a mail order pharmacy. The insurance companies are looking to cut costs and send patients to a centralized filling location, by doing this the patients lose the ability to have face to face contact with the pharmacist that fills their prescriptions.

Talking to your pharmacist can be good for your health!
One of the most important things you can do with your healthcare is to take charge and ask questions. When your doctor is unavailable to answer your questions about your prescriptions medications and over-the-counter (OTC) products, the next person you may ask is your local pharmacist. You may find that asking a simple question can result in finding less expensive medications that work for you or can alert somebody of a potential side effect. The local community pharmacist can be an important resource to utilize.

Disposing of Prescription Medicines and Over-the-Counter (OTC) Products
McQuade's Pharmacy wants you to know that when disposing of old medications, please be extremely careful and do not pour them down the sink or into the toilet. To ensure proper disposal of old prescription medications and over-the-counter (OTC) products, please click below for an important message from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.

Preventing Swine Flu
It seems that each night when we turn on the news or look at the paper, there is new information on the amount if people that have been diagnosed with Swine Flu.

Here are some suggestion on how to prevent the flu!

1. Keep clean.
It is important to remember to wash hands with soap and water whenever you think that you may have been exposed to the flu. If soap and water are not available, the use of an alcohol based cleaner can be effective.

2.Cover the cough
Remember to use a tissue or your elbow to cover your cough. That way you are less likely to spread the germs to others.

3.Eat healthy
Eating healthy can always help to prevent yourself from getting sick. Try and eat fruits and vegetables that have Vitamin C and drink lots of water!

4. Stay home...
When you do get sick, stay home. This means that you are less likely to infect your co-workers and others. Stay home, get rest and before you know it - you will be feeling better!
